For anyone interested I ended up installing xwrt-vortex (http://xvtx.ru/xwrt/index.htm) which allowed me to set a local ipv6 DNS host and take full advantage of ipv6 DNS filtering for pi-hole (https://pi-hole.net)

I think you can only use public IPv6 DNS servers. fe80 is a local address

Any idea why? Is this an r7000 restriction? I'm attempting to set up a local DNS server but am having no luck due to this error for ipv6

Thanks Microchip8 - do you have an alternative firmware you'd recommend? I've used dd-wrt before on Linksys routers, but not sure what plays best with netgear
