slow connection Netgear N600 router
Hello and thank you for your help. Can my four- or five-year-old router be slowing down my wifi speed? If so, are there software updates to improve the router's speeds, or do I need a new router?...

The wndr3400 isn't gigabit capable. Its only a 10/100mbps ethernet device. That's going to be the bottleneck.
You might have only had it for 4-5 years but it was originally made 10 years ago. Its pretty old and just a N600 device.
If you're wanting faster speeds, I'd look at upgrading hardware. A firmware upgrade isn't going to fix its hardware limitations.

I agree with previous post, you might want to upgrade your router for faster speeds, especially since you're paying for high speeds.
