Switch Configuration issue

When I connect this switch with factory defaults to the router, everything works fine.  Every device gets an address in the 192.168.1.1 range. 

 

When I set the IP address of this switch to a static address (ex:192.168.1.254) it stops passing all traffic.  I have to manually set the IP on my laptop to log into the switch interface.

 

Can anyone tell me if there is another setting that needs to be changed to get this working properly? 

 

I just factory reset it to get everything communicating for the time being.
