Trek PR2000 DHCP-problems, keeps dropping connections, maybe workaround
Hi! Some days ago I bought the new Netgear Trek PR2000 mobile wireless router. Purpose was to have an AP for all my devices while traveling and being able to connect them to a hotspot or hotel wifi...

Hi,
i bought a PR2000 in March to use when travelling.
i seem to be experiencing issues with wifi drop out too. It can work for couple days then have constant drop outs.
i have unchecked DHCP server in LAN settings and created IP reservations for my devices and set the rip to in only.
i am on firmware v1.0.0.14_1.0.1 which was on when purchased so this might not be the latest firmware. Is it worth updating to latest firmware first ?
i am also using in 4 way adaptor but then tried in a wall plug but still got same issue.
any assistance appreciated as it's becoming to be useless and I might aswell take an old house router with me on travels

You appear to have the latest firmware. What mode are you operating the PR2000 in? Is it operating as a repeater and if so what is it connecting to, what are the wireless settings? Do you have other wireless networks in the area, and if so do you know if the PR2000 / base AP are automatically changing wireless channel, or is the wireless channel fixed?

Hi,
thanks for your quick response.
if you mean the setting under WPS Wizard - Setup - Internet Setup then under wireless mode it is set at public hotspot (PR2000 work as a AP) recommended setting.
it is connecting to hotel wifi with following settings :-
region = europe
name SSID = netgear75 (default)
channel = 6 (this is greyed out and depends what the hotel router is on)
mode = up to 300mbps
enable SSID broadcast is checked
wpa2-psk (AES) is checked
network key = changed from default setting
it seems I cannot change the wireless channel that the PR2000 is broadcasting on but the hotel wifi channel is fixed I think because they haven't changed their default logon details and can see it is fixed. It is in London so very built up area so expect other hotels have wifi too. However I have had this issue in other hotels where it is not built up and more rural area.
please advise any other questions you might have or suggestions

Thanks for the extra information.
For the WiFi drop, is this a loss of connection from the PR2000 to the hotel, or PC to the PR2000?
If you have disabled the DHCP server I’m not sure how Address Reservations would work since that is part of the DHCP process, do you mean that you are setting static IPs at the attached devices?
If it works for a couple of days and then you hit problems, what is it that you do to make it work again? Do you factory reset it, and if so do you restore from a saved configuration file?

I also have similar issues. I am using mine as a wireless AP
It connects to the other routers internet wirelessly and then rebraodcasts as its own SSID NETGEAR22, this setup works fine and clients can connect fine, however whenever one of the clients disconnects the Trek seems to lose its internet connection and goes through the same sequence with the webpage showing it connecting to the internet. Hence i nly have a stable conenction as long as no other client disconnects. It doesnt seem to make any sense since the clients are all given internal ip addresses, why do it lose the internet connection???
also This "setting up your connection" page itself is really annoying, there is apparently no way to get into the settings without it trying first.
