Update for wnr2000v5 does not extract for firmware 1.0.0.58
My model number is not recognized in the Model field in this form - wtf! It is WNR2000v5 I've just downloaded the update firmware WNR2000v5-V1.0.0.58.img and my iMac (MacOS Sierra 10.12) says "image...

Read the instructions (in the "Release Notes") which come in the
firmware kit? Or see:

To those who suggested I read the accompanying file in the folder... thank you. As another feed stated, Apple, once upon a time did use .img for an image file - I've been around a long time - and since has change the image extension to .dmg. Anyway, now knowing it is not an "disk image" file, I followed the instructions and after finally realizing what the login info for www.routerlogin.net is (it's simpler than you'd think, especially if you never created your own login info for it - hint: you'll find it in the Netgear Genie app as the default login info under one of those buttons) I was able to proceed with no issues whatsoever. Thanks again for the sage advice. I'm now updated.

One addendum - make sure to quit the Netgear Genie app before going to www.routerlogin.net or else you will not be able to proceed.

I have been unable to update my router. I have downloaded the zip folder & gone to the routerlogin page. Neither has benefited me. The webpage was not able to be found. When I attempted to update it via Netgear Genie, it states that my router is unsupported or not found. So my question is, how can I update my router if I can not login into my Netgear Genie account & the zip folder will not open/run?

Did you read the previous postings in this thread?

Which "the routerlogin page"? I'll assume that you're looking at
something like: ADVANCED > Administration > Firmware Update.

What, exactly, does "the zip folder will not open/run" mean? As
usual, showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages,
...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.
As previously explained, you should not be pointing your "Netgear
Genie" web interface page to "the zip folder".
You should extract the contents of the zip archive, and, first, read
the instructions in the "Release Notes" file there. Then, point the
"Netgear Genie" web interface page to the ".img" file (not to the ".zip"
archive).
If you need help extracting the files from the ".zip" archive, then
say which operating system you're using. - egbailerOct 13, 2017Aspirant
The first thing you must do is get that .zip file unzipped! There are various utiliies available to do so. I used "Achive Utility.app" but I'm not sure where I got it from - probably a software bundle offered me in some email. Go to the App Store, put "unzip" in the search field - their are many options there, many free. Once you've unzipped the .zip file you'll have the folder WNR2000v5-V1.0.0.58 (place it on the desktop to make finding it easy once you're get to the Browse Files step in the upgrade portion of routerlogin.net - you'll be looking for WNR2000v5-V1.0.0.58.img, the second file in the folder). Read the release notes (the first file - WNR2000v5-V1.0.0.58_Release_Notes.html - it will open in your browser). The login info for routerlogin.net is: admin, password. Once in, follow the instructions in the release notes and you should be all set. If you've made no changes to your router when you set it up, after logging in to routerlogin.net you should only need steps 4, 5 and 6. Remember, make sure Netgear Genie is closed or else you won't be able to perform the upgrade. I'm not sure if I needed it, but just in case, have you're actual router password handy (it's the one you use when setting up wireless for your devices). I hope this helps and I haven't hit you with information overload and please be sure to re-read my instructions here if you get stuck. And just for clarification, I'm am not a tech specialist, just an avid amateur hoping to help you out. Good luck! Ed.
p.s. I forgot to mention, I use an iMac. If you're a PC user, you may have to find a different source (the App Store is just for MacOS) for an "upzip" program but I'd think that on a Windows machine they'd open automatically. Just did a search and found www.7-zip.org. Works for Windows 10/8/7 according to the little blurb in the search results.
That's all I've got. Once again, Good Luck!

Probably not. It's supplied with the OS. (There's also a
command-line "unzip" program, "/usr/bin/unzip".)

Again, basic zip archive extraction comes with the OS:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14200/windows-compress-uncompress-zip-files
