Use N600 in AP mode as NAS

Got it all set up now as an access point only and my USB drive is accessible from any other computer or phone on my home network.

You found "AP Mode" in the WNDR3400v3 User Manual?

I'd expect it to work as well either way, but when configured as a
wireless access point, it'll have some new/different LAN IP address, and
any "routerlogin" names might not work, so I'd expect you to need to use
its (new/different LAN) IP address to access the serverd storage.
Something like an "Attached Devices" or "DHCP Clients" (or similar)
report from your (unspecified) main router should tell you that.
And you'd probably want to reserve an address for the
WNDR3400v3-as-WAP on the (DHCP server on the) main router, so that
it won't go wandering around every time you restart some gizmo.
