using an external drive formatted exFAT with USB port in Nighhawk R7000P(AC2300)

I'm in an all Mac world and in Disc Utility,it's reformatting app, none of the formats on Netgear's list are offered. Any suggestions?
I don't have/use a mac. but FAT32 is supported and this aricle walks through doing it on a mac.
