Using R6300v2 with ATT wireless home phone and internet MF279
I'm looking for advice or help in configuring a Netgear R6300v2 router with AT&T's wireless home phone and internet service. The AT&T device model number is MF279. It has an 1 ethernet port on the ba...

If you can run a cable to a better place, then configuring the
R6300v2 as a wireless access point might help. Visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for "Wireless Access Point".
For another possibility without the cable connection, look for "Set
Up the Router in Bridge Mode".Now with it set up as a "Wireless Access Point", will that allow the wired portion of the R6300v2 to run as an ethernet switch? Is there an additional setting for that?

It should. In WAP mode, the R6300v2 should act as a simple network
switch (with wireless capability), and that includes the LAN ports.
I'll admit that the term "wireless access point" can be misleading, but
that's what it's generally called. "Network switch with wireless
capability" is more accurate, but cumbersome.
