Where is the "Maintenance>Router Upgrade" link for Security upgrade

Received today (06.24.17) a Netgear alert to download a security upgrade for my WNR2000v3 router (purchased and REGISTERED in December 2011), wired to my desktop DELL.

Followed EXACTLY Netgear instructions and downloaded a ZIPPED file to my desktop. Next entered  http://192.168.1.1 as a WEB address (as required) and got a vast selection of WEB addresses and links. Tried several of them but NO one gave me the necessary "Maintenance>Router Upgrade" link which is next in the instructions. Tried to open the downloaded zip file but got "the file is corrupted and can not be opened".

Please help me to proceed with the firmware upgrade as I understand the Netgear message as an important and urgent one.

(Being a computer dummy I would much appreciate the detailed step-by-step advice).

Many THANKS for attention and help.

      Welcome to the community, Birdo

You may update the firmware of the router manually.

      See the article below.

How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router?

Many thanks for your fast reply.

Following the instructions that you have advised I get in the step #3 (Enter http://www.routerlogin.net) a long list of links to articles about the router maintenance, which I am afraid to follow as the sources are questionable. (I entered this link into my DELL desktop, hardwired to the router, with Win 10).

Your instruction says instead that the next step #4 (Enter the router user name and password) should be just a place to enter the name and a pass which I do NOT get.

      WHY? May you explain.

I have seen your other post and it seems it's already been resolved.
        Can you confirm?
