Wireless wndr3400

on my desktop on the wireless icon when hightlighted it says netgear50  2 and not netgear50. My built in wireles is not a dual channel adapter.

  • Windows uses profiles to keep track of wireless networks.  These profiles usually have the same name as the Wi-Fi name (SSID), but Windows will sometimes create a new profile by appending a number.  Changing the Wi-Fi password, I believe, can cause Windows to create a new profile.  In your case, Windows created a profile called netgear50 2.  This profile has nothing to do with the fact that your computer is not dual band.

If your computer is working fine, then you don't really need worry about the profile name.  If it bothers you, then you can delete the profile.  Netgear has instructions for doing this on Windows (link).  Beware, deleting the profile will disconnect your computer from the Wi-Fi network.  Make sure you know your Wi-Fi password because you will have to enter it when you re-join your computer to the Wi-Fi network.
