Perhaps the router is starting to fail.
Try to reflash the firmware of the router, reset then reconfigure.
When you reconfigure, change all the wireless settings to a different SSID and use a stronger wifi password as well as the login password for the router.
Observe your connection.

That sounds strange.
Will the connection drop if you direct connect your computer to the modem?
How many computers are connected to the router?
What kind of wireless security you're using on the router?

No it works fine connected directly to the modem.
2 computers 1 tablet and a game console use the router but i only have 1 device connected at a time so i dont think its an overload issue
I use WPA2 with a 30 character password that has upper case/lower case letters and numbers so its a strong password same with the password to access the settings of the router.
