WNR1000V3 Software Update Failed

I registered this 07/2010 and it has worked great. I had a LinkSys wireless access point connected to it and it was used more because it was faster and had a stronger signal. I reset the WNR1000 today because I forgot the password and could not connect to the wireless because I could not remember the exact password for it either. In the process I saw there was an update available so I selexted to do it. It said it would take 1.5 minutes but after 45 minutes there was no progress. I tried to recover it but the power light flashes (like after a reset) and nothing happens. Netgear's site stated I would be charged for support. It would seem the devices would always I have a basic boot ROM available but I guess it doesn't pay. I am not happy and will not buy Netgear again. Thanks
