They would be on a different subnet and behind two firewalls. This may or may not work well being in a double NAT condition.
You could set up the 2nd router for AP mode which would be on the same sub net as the primary router, still set up a 2.4Ghz SSID name for these IoT devices and they would connect to the AP mode router and you would have seamless access across the network.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Will AP mode allow me to use the additional ports in the 2nd router for Ethernet connections, too? I will have to do some checking.

OK. I am set, as long as I still have IP addresses available and the Ethernet is in the same number scheme I am set. Going to Costco tomorrow for an AX2200, which I assume will work fine.

If you plan on having two wifi sources, just make sure the channels on each unit is using far apart channels. #1 using channel 1 and # 2 using channel 11. I would even turn down the power out out of the 2ndary AP to maybe 50% as well to ensure there isn't any interferences with the Primary wifi router. Otherwise, should all work well.
