5g auto channel not listed

R6400v2
Firmware V1.0.4.122_10.0.95 (latest)

2.4g wireless is set to auto which is great
5g wireless is set to channel 153 instead of auto.
I cannot even select auto as an option.

Rebooted router. No help
Unplugged for 5 minutes. No help
Reset router. No help.

My Roku , which is on 5g, keeps dropping connection and I think it’s because of the auto channel select.

Any insight ?

Most 5Ghz channels are manual selected channels. I don't think auto is an option.

    Try channels 36 thru 48.

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

I live in an apt complex so of course there are many other routers around.
When I look at my attached devices, my ROKU is using 5g and my iPhone is using 2.4 which is auto

My ROKU keeps dropping connection. I don’t know what else it could be other than the selected channel.

So are you saying I should manually change the channel from 153 to something lower ? What would that do ?

      Thanks for the reply

5ghz doesn't have an auto option as it isn't needed. 5ghz doesn't broadcast as far or through as much materials so it doesn't have the same interference issues that 2.4ghz does.

You can try using one of the lower channels. You log into the router and under the wireless settings you can try a different channel. Not sure if it'll help much.

Is it only the roku having issues?

How do you know its "dropping" the connection?

What error are you seeing to say its dropping?

        What roku is it?

How far from the router is the roku?

How many walls and what are they made of inbetween the roku and the router? (certain materials block wifi. and 5ghz doesn't broadcast as far or through as much materials)

  • I had the exact same issue but overall bad WiFi. Switched mine to 20 (I think?)… it was the lowest one, and all of my speed tests doubled throughout my house…
