5G channel drops speed
R8000 nighthawk router. I have all 3 channels up. One 2.4 and two 5Ghz . I have had this router for a few years. Recently moved and this is where the problem started. Every few days, one of the 5Ghz c...

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 and 149 to 161 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Do you have Armor, SPC or Traffic Meter enabled.
How do you have Advanced Wireless Settings configured?

Firmware is V1.0.4.84
Currently has a spectrum modem. ES2251 DOCSIS 3.1. (This was given to us by our ISP, as our 3.0 apparently wouldn’t work?)
2300 sq. ft. home. (When the speed drops though, it doesn’t matter if I’m 2 ft from the router, or on the other side of the house.)
I’ve had it on auto, but when this started happening, I tried changing the channels on the 5Ghz-1 and the 5Ghz-2. (Note: the 2.4 never gets this problem, it only affects the 5Ghz channels)
Regular neighborhood, so neighbors next to us. But, no different than where we used to lived, ie. Neighbors are same distance next to us.
No armor or traffic meter set up.
Not sure on the advance settings. Whatever they were set at, other than me setting up passwords and naming the channels.
To add also, I completely removed one of the 5ghz channels to only have 1 and not 2. This had no effect on the problem, the channel dropped within a few days.
Also, restarting the router fixes this whenever it happens. And everything runs beautifully for a few days.
Thanks for the help.

Currently has a spectrum modem. ES2251 DOCSIS 3.1.Google doesn't help to pin down the specifications of this. Is is a modem only box or a modem/router that also does wifi and has Ethernet ports on the back?
When you moved house, did you reset the R8000? You need to get it to forget any settings that it acquired to work on your old service.
- iamlemarksmanJun 06, 2022AspirantIt is just a stand alone modem. I will try to get a different number possibly off of it? I never liked the modem/router combos, and I hated renting equipment, which is why I just bought one. Never had problems until now.
I never thought about resetting the router. Is that just doing a factory reset and then re-setting it up? I will give that a try.

Yes. I would use the ERASE function on the routers web page. Under Advance tab/Admin/Backup.
When the router is reset, before you start walking thru the setup wizard, I recommend powering OFF both ISP modem and router for 30 seconds, then back ON with the modem first then router, then walk thru the setup wizard with a wired PC and web browser at 192.168.1.1.

Advanced WiFi settings are under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Can post a screen capture of this section...
What channels are you using now?

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed?

Thanks for the help.- iamlemarksmanJun 06, 2022AspirantAttached is what I have.
I am unsure what the neighbors are using. More than likely whatever the isp set them up with to be honest.
I will be doing a factory reset today and go from there.

What is seen at the bottom of that page as well.
You can also uncheck 20/40Mhz on 2.4ghz as well.
Let us know how it goes...
