What wireless chip is in the 2 that it doesn't see it?
Are they dual band chips?
What driver is installed on them?
what router do you have?

Way too many questions for non computer literate. Don't know answers. Both Dell laptops bought used and they work fine on wi fi router but will not show me the 5G option in available networks, The 5G seems to work much faster on my Windows surface. But it is solid state drive where the two dells are mechanical hard drives. The windows runs windows 10 pro, the dells are standard windows 10 as loaded by dell. Just thought there might be some generic answer to why they would not offer the 5G. Also, our i-phones show and use the 5G connection. I'll just get by without the 5G on the dells. Thanks for trying he help a computer illiterate.

Are you sure your used Dell Laptops have the capability of connecting to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band? They may be older models without that capability. Have they connected to a 5 GHz band on some other router?
You can go to the Dell support web site and put in the machine service tag numbers and check to see what Wi-Fi radios were in the machine when it left the factory.

- Go to Start Menu and type in “Device Manager”. Alternately, you can key in “Device Manager” on the search box found on the taskbar. Then click on the Device Manager button.
- You will be led to a list of installed devices. Look for “Network Adapters” in the list and click on it.
- If your PC has an installed wireless adapter card, you will see it under the Network Adapters drop-down list. An example wireless card name would be: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265.
- Double click on the name of the card and a new window will pop displaying the wireless card properties.
- The properties window will display six tabs. You will find comprehensive card information under the Advanced tab and Details tab.
