Stopped working in what sense? No wifi? Does ethernet still work?
What I tried:a) unplugged the main router for at least a minute and restarted it. Nothing.
b) unplugged the access point and and the TPLink powerline adapter for at least a minute and plugged them back in. Nothing.
c) upgraded the firmware to my Netgear R6400 AC1750 MAIN router. Nothing.
There are a few things you can try.
Did you restart the whole network? Modem then router then access point?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
You might also want to check that the second R6400 is still in AP mode.
This brings up this question.
I have not upgraded the firmware to the Access Point, first because I haven't researched how to do it and second, I don't know if the main router upgrades the firmware of the Access Point through the Powerline Adapter. I don't even know if that would make a difference.
Upgrading the firmware on the first R6400 wont affect the AP one. And you are right in thinking that it might not make any difference to the AP.
The way to manage the R6400 in AP mode is to find its IP address. There are various ways to do this. The easiest os probably to get into the R6400 router and to find the IP address of the AP. Then you can point your browser at that address.
When you get into that you can follow the instructions on the manual for a manual upgrade of the firmware.
By the way, the suggestion that you should go to another section is waste of everyone's time. I see that you haven't gone down that road yet. Heaven only knows why they said that without offering any further help. The problems you pose are the same as for the routers covered in this section. Most frustrating.
