What actual modem/gateway is it?
It if has wifi built in, it has an integrated router. it causes a double nat

Options? (only use 1)
1. put your modem/gateway in passthrough/modem only mode.
2. put the netgears IP address into the gateways dmz
3. put the netgear in access point mode.
