AC2600 WiFi Router (R7450) Internet connection drops on DHCP lease renewal

I have been experiencing periodic Internet drops on my home LAN for the past 6 months, year, or more.  I finally have isolated the problem to DHCP lease renewals.  Every time the WAN DHCP lease on my #AC2600 WiFi Router (R7450) renews, my internet connection drops for about 15 seconds.  This disrupts video streams, voice calls, and my VPN connection to work. Wireless and wired connections are affected. I can see a 1-2 second Internet drop in the router log when this happens.  I can easily trigger the problem by manually requesting a lease renewal using the router web user interface.

I have the latest firmware, V1.2.0.92_1.0.1.

Based on other reports on the Internet, I see this has been a problem with Netgear routers for over 2 years now.  Is there any hope of a solution from Netgear?  I've always had great experiences with Netgear equipment, so I would rather not have to buy a router from another provider, but right now that seems like my only solution.

  • The router is connected to my Motorola Surfboard SB6121 cable modem.

After contacting Xfinity about my issue, they have helped mitigate the problem by extending my DHCP leases from 1 hour to 1 day.  Thank you Xfinity!

  • I'm not sure how I got R7800 into my post.  My router is the R7450 model.
