When you are following the instructions from plemans you can make life easier for future management by fixing the IP address on your access point. Then, whenever you want to get into the GUI you just aim a browser at that address.

Check point 5, "Select AP Mode" and note that you don't need "advanced network experience", just the ability to use a browser.

Thank. Managed to get access. Realised it is connected to a VPN so the gateway nr to connect to the router is that of the VPN and through it, not through netgear.
