Did you try factory resetting and reinstalling the router (not from backup)?
Its usually what's recommended if there's issues after updating firmware.

I did for a reset facotry on the router for about 30 seconds and still having issues. When I download an app on my phone over wifi the download speed is slow to the point it takes half an hour to download 100mb. The wifi is the issue and it has me stumped..

You put that you tried a factory reset for about 30 seconds. You mean you held down the reset button for 30 seconds or actually powered it off for 30 seconds? Just clarifying
