the gateway is the device the router connects to for internet service.
Firmware will be in the top left corner or the advanced status page if you log in through the browser.

I don't understand about the gateway. Are you talking about an actual device or an IP address?
WNR3500LV2 current firmware I have is V1.2.0.66.

This "modem" may also be a "gateway". A gateway usually refers to a modem/router that has added features, such as a telephone socket.
Tell people the make and model of this modem and you may get better help.
Any speeds you test over wifi are more likely to measure the capability of your wifi devices, not your Internet speed. The only reliable tests are with a direct wired connection.

Ah ok, thank you for clarifying that. I haven't really been keeping up with the current technology for the past 4 or 5 years.
My modem is a Netgear CMD31T and I tested my internet speed my result was 137.5Mbps
My router is a Netgear WNR3500Lv2. I'll keep posting my router that way there isn't so much back tracking to see what router I have.

so the router is getting the full 137mbps hardwired in?
And what speeds do you get over wireless? Just trying to see if you're speeds are actually slow or an expectation of that router
