Problem solved with suggestion 1 in combination with a router firmware update which now offers an additional tick box in the WAN Setup "Support BT IGMP Proxying".
Solution
Click on "Advanced"->"Setup"->"WAN Setup"
Deselect "Disable IGMP Proxying"Tick "Support British Telecom[BT} IGMP Proxying"
Click "Apply"Thank you for pointing me in the right direction :o)

Ah, what a shame this has not worked!
I have changed the setting and rebooted the router and I still receive error messages "that there
is not a suitable device connected to view BT sport & extra channels" and "Broadband interruptions are affecting your viewing (VMC 011) and the BT sport and extra channels are not working.
Any other suggestions?
Thank you

You can try setting up a bridge group to bypass NAT for your BT vision box. Follow the instructions for Enable the bridge on page 42 of the manual.
Otherwise, see if the following threads on bt.com provide any clues.

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately this has not worked either.
I set the relevant BT Vison box port on the router to bridge mode which resulted in loss of internet connection of the BT vision box. Error message on TV screen reads: Your are not connected to the internet. I pluged in the ethernet cable into a "non bridge mode" port and the internet connection is restored.
Would you have any further ideas?

I'm sorry the bridging mode didn't work. I suggest you look through the links I provided. There is a lot of discussion on how to get multicast and IGMP working. One of the links also talks about how to check that your account is enabled for multicast.
