cannot close ports 21 and 443 on r7000 router

just down graded to firmware v1.0.5.64_1.188
rebooted unit and wah-lah...port 21 (FTP) is closed to shields up port scanner.

I don't think grc gibson research's shields up is the problem. I am running netgear's firmware. Maybe i should try firmwares from shibby.

I just noticed that you are are running v1.0.6.28_1.1.83. It's been recalled due to bugs. You should downgrade to 1.0.5.64. Get it here. It's strongly recommended for you to perform a factory reset after installation and reconfigure by hand. Do not restore from a backup file because it could be incompatible.
There are several, great 3rd party firmware options for the R7000. I use Asuswrt-Merlin.
