Can't connect to R8000 admin screen using Safari on MacOS (Big Sur)

I've got an R8000 router.

When I use Safari on MacOS to connect to the admin screen, Safari's URL bar just flickers but never pulls up the admin screen.

I need to use another browser for a successful connection.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

You'll need to use a different browser if your having this problem.

Many of Netgear's manuals, including the R8000's, come with the warning:

NETGEAR recommends that you enable password recovery if you change the password for the router user name admin. Then you can recover the password if it is forgotten. This recovery process is supported in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome browsers but not in the Safari browser.

So there seems to something odd about Safari that Netgear doesn't like.
