Can't reset router password

After doing the most recent firmware update, which added the security questions, my husband stupidly reloaded the old backup settings. Now neither the old or new password is working. I attempted to reset the password using the serial number, but it's telling me the security question answers are incorrect (they aren't.) How can I fix this?

It's stupid only because Netgear firmware made it stupid.

Settings reset, and manual reconfiguration.  Visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Factory Settings" (or
    "reset").

So, I have to reset to factory default? No other way?

If you can find another way, then you have my permission to have at
it.  If your expected passwords all fail, and the password recovery
scheme fails, then I'd guess that you're practically doomed.

If it were a life-and-death matter, and practicality was not
required, then you might be able to load some older firmware using the
TFTP recovery scheme, and plop your old saved settings into that, and
try again as if nothing had happened.

I probably wouldn't try it, but you could.
