One some of my routers, in ap mode, you leave it plugged into the wan port. On others, you have to move it to the lan port. you can check your specific devices settings and it'll show you. I believe for the R7800 you can leave it in the wan port.

If they're both hardwired in, you should just be able to place both in access point mode. That disables the dhcp and lets the ubiquiti run the routing portions.

Thank you for the fast reply.
To make sure I have this right. Plug into a LAN port on each Nighthawk and nothing in the wan port? Will AP mode let me set the SSID and pass phrase? Just use the same settings on each Nighthawk?
