NB: I have figured out that the technical name for this setup is a wifi bridge or wireless bridge.

The R8000 does not support wifi repeater (or wireless bridge) mode.
You can use the R8000 as a wireless access point, with a LAN connection to your router.
If you can't run a LAN cable far enough, then Powerline Ethernet can use your mains circuit to fill the gap.

I'm replacing a slow powerline setup. Wifi seems to work beter so far (my, ahm, Asus can do wireless bridging).

Old Powerline plugs have 100 Mbps Ethernet. New ones do 1000 Mbps. That males a difference.
