Connecting two linux PCs by ssh
Hello, I have two Ubuntu PCs on my network. I can use ssh from one PC to the other one if they are connected by ethernet to the router. I can't if one of the two PCs is connected by wifi. I r...

can't means that there is no error message. Even a ping does not work.I write "ssh <pc2>" in a bash shell from <pc1> and just nothing happens if one of the two PCs is connected to the router by wifi.

Around here (Mac or VMS, usually), when ssh fails, I get an error
message. I'd expect ssh on any GNU/Linux to do that, too. Unless it's
hung waiting for a DNS server, or something like that. But "can't"
provides almost exactly no useful information.> [...] Even a ping does not work. [...]
Again, "not work" is not a useful problem description. It does not
say what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As
usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results
(error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations. Especially when using a command-line
program, copy+paste is your friend."ping" from what to what? Some actual IP addresses might be
interesting, too.

I know nothing about your printer, including how it's connected to
what.
> I start thinking that this router is just bugged [...]Possible, but with only "can't" and "does not work", there's not much
I can do.I've suggested to a forum moderator that this thread belongs in that
other forum, but I don't know if or when it might get moved. If it does
not get moved, then you might want to post again in that (more
appropriate) forum.- Philippe2021Jun 11, 2021Guide
It's simple: I have <pc1> and <pc2> (it's 192.168.1.30 and 192.168.1.2 but what's the point ?).
From a shell prompt in <pc1>, ssh <pc2> gives me access to pc2 if the two pc are connected by ethernet. If one of them is connected by wifi, nothing happens, it's just stuck and I don't know why. What else can I say ? The DNS is the same in both cases. More interesting and instructive, I managed to enable HT160 in the advanced settings of the wifi, as suggested in https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-Routers/ssh-problem-with-wifi-on-XR500-but-works-fine-via-ethernet/m-p/1709736/highlight/true#M8367. How did I proceed ? By booting in Windows 10 and using Microsoft Edge. It means that the user interface of the router is not compatible with Chrome or Firefox (I tried Firefox too). And by the way, that did not solve the problem either.
Concerning the printer, a Brother printer which works with Windows 10, my ipad and linux, the printing jobs are stuck for unknown reason, my ipad for example tells me after a (long) while :
Brother HL-L2375DW series
Une erreur s'est produite lors de
l'impression du document
"Annuler" "Réessayer"
which in English can be translated
An error occured while
printing the document
"Cancel" "Retry"
You will notice that my printer is detected and connected (by wifi, I tried by ethernet and it's the same problem).

A ping from <pc1> to <pc2> or from <pc2> to <pc1> works today (192.168.1.2 is my laptop connected in wifi and mars my desktop PC connected by ethernet to the router)
XXX@mars:~$ ping 192.168.1.2 PING 192.168.1.2 (192.168.1.2) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 octets de 192.168.1.2 : icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 temps=171 ms 64 octets de 192.168.1.2 : icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 temps=194 ms 64 octets de 192.168.1.2 : icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 temps=11.0 ms 64 octets de 192.168.1.2 : icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 temps=33.4 ms
But ssh still does not work (the wifi seems to block ssh connexion for unknown reasons)
