Not in my experience. I usually end up retiring devices because newer ones offer features that I'd like to have.

"Issues" could mean anything, but the R7000 was always a basic "workhorse" router.
I do a lot of gaming (mostly LAN, but I have friends come over and use wifi), so any extra GAMING features i guess would be cool, but im assuming they all probably offer the same thing, just some get their prices jacked up for GAMING purposes.
Netgear's gaming routers do not "offer the same thing". They come with a fancy dumaOS operating system of their own that adds all manner of bells and whistles. At a price! Only you know if they would make sense for you.
