My experience is that as long as they survive their early days electronic stuff just keeps going along as you don't get lots of power cuts and lightning strikes. Eventually, though, obsolescence creeps in and they can't keep up with things like faster Internet services.
You don't say what issues you have, and in any case this isn't the place to troubleshoot a router with third party firmware.
The R7000 is ageing. But it has proved to be pretty reliable and meets most needs.
The way to look for an alternative is probably to check the product pages and pick the features that appeal to you.
