Don't buy a Nighthawk X10... or any Netgear
I received this unit as a present early last August and it just died yesterday (late this August... just a bit over the 1 year warranty). It seems Netgear uses the cheapest components it can get away...

Whats actually going on?
Maybe it didn't die or there's a different issue.
Its tough to tell without actual details of what's all going on.
Does the power light come on?
What are all the led's on it doing?
Have you checked the power supply?
What troubleshooting steps have you taken?

All lights except the internet conectivity light comes on. My phone connects via wi-fi but there is not internet. When the issue occured, I shut the router down, unplugged it and let it cool down for about a half hour. The device was really hot to the touch, not burning hot but more than warm. I plugged it back in after is was back to room temp to the same result.
I contacted my ISP to see if there was an issue on their side. They tried a reset a couple of times to no avail. I attempted to log into my router but I didn't even get a login prompt.
There is a fan visible through the mesh on top of the device and I can see that it isn't spinning. The fan looks rather cheap, like something that would burn out if it ran non-stop for a year, something it would need to do.- plemansAug 31, 2021Guru - Experienced User

This question needs an answer.
The symptoms described could well depend on it.

Should lower yoour temps. Note that not only the CPU gets hot but also the surrounding components

The included fan on the R9000 only turned ON when the internal CPU temp reached a point where it would trigger the fan. Otherwise, the fan remains OFF and does NOT run all the time.
More info is needed to better help you see if this is a HW issue or something else. Not everything is NG fault.

I failed to mention in this review (but not others - there are others) that when the unit died while I was watching Amazon Prime, I felt the unit: it was very hot, not warm. It was almost uncomfortable to the touch. That fan should have been spinning. Putting the unit in a cool place or putting additional fans on it now is too late as I am sure the chips are burned out. I'm not saying everything is NG's fault, but I am saying this is. To keep their costs down and profits up, they put the least expensive (read cheap) components in the unit.
From here on out, I'll use a simple comparison to determine what I'll buy: Look at what my ISP charges and for what duration and compare that to the cost of a personal router divided by the length of its warranty. NG has a 1 year warranty and costs $450. My ISP charges $10 a month ($120 a year). $450 a year >> $120.
