Don't buy a Nighthawk X10... or any Netgear
I received this unit as a present early last August and it just died yesterday (late this August... just a bit over the 1 year warranty). It seems Netgear uses the cheapest components it can get away...

I failed to mention in this review (but not others - there are others) that when the unit died while I was watching Amazon Prime, I felt the unit: it was very hot, not warm. It was almost uncomfortable to the touch. That fan should have been spinning. Putting the unit in a cool place or putting additional fans on it now is too late as I am sure the chips are burned out. I'm not saying everything is NG's fault, but I am saying this is. To keep their costs down and profits up, they put the least expensive (read cheap) components in the unit.
From here on out, I'll use a simple comparison to determine what I'll buy: Look at what my ISP charges and for what duration and compare that to the cost of a personal router divided by the length of its warranty. NG has a 1 year warranty and costs $450. My ISP charges $10 a month ($120 a year). $450 a year >> $120.

So it would be more helpful if you wany help on this to answer Plemans qustions, Otherwise, you'll need to contact NG support and ask for there help. We can't help you if you can't help us.
Good Luck.
- Huston1976Sep 18, 2021AspirantI've answered every question he asked. You cannot help, NG support can't help. The router is dead due to a crappy fan. I'll disassemble the POS and put voltage across the fan leads to prove it doesn't work if that will convince you.

The fan only triggers when a coded temp is triggered. The FAN was never meant to run all the time. IF the fan didn't turn ON when triggered then means there was a different failure.
I personally don't trust the built in fans. I always keep a laptop cooler under my router at all times. Just helps keep it cooler and extends the over all life. I would highly recommend you get one for your next router.
