Extending wifi signal just for non-wired devices

The model i purchsed doesn't say anything about 'v2', just PL1000 so my assumption is a 'v1'.
I find it interesting that this device is billed as a "WiFi" extender...but it doesn't actually extend the signal for "WiFi" devices, just wired ones.

Where? By whom? Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your
model number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at
least). Read. On the PL1000 Product Data Sheet, I see things like
"extend your Internet access". On the PLW1000 Product Data Sheet I see
"extend your WiFi Internet access".

Add your own wireless access point. Practically any old wireless
router can be pressed into service that way. (Details available on
request.)
