Factory Reset Old Router After New One Installed (Nighthawk X10 AD7200, Model R9000
I just installed the Nighthawk RAXE500 router. I still have my old router, a Nighthawk X10 AD7200, Model R9000. I want to "reset" the X10, but I will have to plug it in to do so. I did not reset it before installing the new one. I want to know if it is safe to just plug in the old router to reset it, or do I have to either unplug the current router and modem, make sure the phone and laptop are off, etc. before I plug it in to do the factory reset, or do I have to take it somewhere "out of range" to have it reset? It has a reset button on the back. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

You can press the reset button or use the ERASE button on the R9000 to reset it. Once it's reset you can turn it off and put it away. Or keep it's current configuration and put it away and keep it for back up in case something happens.

Or use the ERASE button on the routers web page to factory reset the router:

No.
Disconnect it from everything.
Plug it into the mains.
Stick a straightened paperclip into the reset "pinhole" on the back.
Wait for the lightshow to end as it resets and restarts and then add it to your other redundant e-junk until you decide that the router deserves a decent burial or, preferably, a journey to the great recycling centre in the sky.
If you have registered it with MyNetgear, you can remove it from there. It doesn't need to be on line or turned on for you to do that.
