You should review this and maybe revert back to this recommended version of FW:

Since I've flashed Tomato a few weeks ago I've forgotten that I have a router- it's working perfectly getting dust because i do not touch it at all :-)...
Parental control works perfectly, 0 drops, strong signal - save your time and do a similar thing!

I found this tutorial (http://avi.im/blag/2015/asus-wrt-merlin-on-netgear-r7000/) posted in another thread which says you do the .chk to get Tomato then the .trx to get XWRT-Vortex.
If you are on NG firmware go to the GUI page where you can flash the firmware. Just flash the .chk file as you would do with NG firmware. It is being adviced to do a factory reset before flashing the XWRT firmware to avoid out of memory issues.

Hi all,
back again with some bad update: after nearly 48 hours with 2.4 ghz (and 5.0) my router runs out of control again. 2.4 went down, 5 becomes unstable as well. To make it more worse my console freez and I had to reset the router to come back to live.
As I don´t see any offical regular updates nor any offical recommendation how to handle this bug nor any other reaction it seem to me that Netgear is happy to loose customers.
@ Netgear: if I am right with my assumption pls. do nothing, than I know how to advise my private community and my fiends in the field.
Now a bit more than not happy
