Hi All,
Please post here for any update/issue related to the latest firmware 1.0.9.18.

You should review this and maybe revert back to this recommended version of FW:

Since I've flashed Tomato a few weeks ago I've forgotten that I have a router- it's working perfectly getting dust because i do not touch it at all :-)...
Parental control works perfectly, 0 drops, strong signal - save your time and do a similar thing!

I have been testing the latest FW from netgear for 24 hours and so far no disconnects.

What version is it that you are testing?

What I meant to add after my last post is that, OK I'm up and running but having to use outdated firmware because Netgear messed up is not acceptable. Neither is having to scrabble around for a fix with no support from the company. I'm nervous about updating the FW when, or if, they release a fix. How can I trust that it won't have other undiscovered bugs?
I think either another Router or third party software will be my route. Netgear, you've lost me.

I've been running internet speed tests using this test: https://sourceforge.net/speedtest/
This HTML5 based speed test not only tests your speed but also tests for dropped packets.
I first connected my laptop directly to my internet modem and had no dropped packets.
I then reconnected the R7000 to the modem and ran the same test again. The test results showed that 36%-39% of my test packets were dropped. Based on other posts in this thread, I downgraded the firmware from V1.0.9.20 Beta to V1.0.7.12_1.2.5, repeated the test and got the same results. The test also indicated that the R7000 may not be suitable for games, voip and other web applications because of these issues.
I would appreciate it if more users would use the above speed test to test their internet connection with the R7000 and report their results. I'd especially be interesed in hearing from Tomato and Vortex firmware R7000 users.

While I have empathy for all those with problem, I am basically not having any? Just want to add that to all the negative comments, as I'm sure there are others like me. Also to give hope to all that these V1.0.9.xx flashes don't damage the h/w, at leat not mine.
I do have one semi-serious problem. Windows 10's NET VIEW and the R7000 router do not get along. W10 dropped SMB v1.0 from the OS (unless already there and in use) but it appears that the NG firmware needs that to communicate with W10... not proven but it appears to be the case.
I have used ALL versions of V1.0.9.xx and gone back and forth with them working on the NET VIEW problem, but with all these flashes I've NOT experienced on drop on either the 2.4 or 5 Ghz channels.
My R7000 is OLD... I got it basically when it first came out, and it has gone through many firmware upgrades. I don't recall and 'real' problems with it either. I have never reloaded settings from and older (or newer flash) and not every time have I done RESETS either. I do after every flash LOOK at the settings and see if new or changed one have happened though.
Maybe I don't use it fully though. I have a limited number of devices that connect to it (unless relatives or friends are in the home):
- A Smart TV when on (5Ghz)
- FireTV Stick, always on, 2.4Ghz
- 2 iPad Pro's, 1 2.4Ghz, the other 5Ghz
- 1 1GB wired PC on most of the time.
- 1 AC Wireless PC (NG AC1200 device), 5Ghz
- Amazon Echo, 5Ghz
- 2 PC's rarely on, 1 wired, 1 wireless 2.4Ghz
- Various iPad's, Nintendo devices, iPhones, etc, when friends and relatives connect to the R7000
NOT 1 report of any drops, ever.
Note: 3 of the PC's have RESERVED IP Addresses.
I guess all I'm trying to say there are people out there with no problems. This is basically a 'support' forum and you'd expect to see such reports here. Yes, I agree, there are many more than one would expect. However using a router with the numerous combination of setting and attached devices, as well as environments could have a partial hand in the problem and hard to test.
