You should review this and maybe revert back to this recommended version of FW:

Since I've flashed Tomato a few weeks ago I've forgotten that I have a router- it's working perfectly getting dust because i do not touch it at all :-)...
Parental control works perfectly, 0 drops, strong signal - save your time and do a similar thing!

Might want to look https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/DD-WRT-and-other-third-party-firmware/m-p/443988#M4293, message 24... 3rd parties might not have the rights to distribute all code, so either the function would/could be missing, or the entire binary could be considered illegal possibly. Maybe 'someone' is turning a 'blind eye' on it but at some point it might be necessary to remove the firmware (if that is even possible to determine who has it?)?

They don't need to remove 3rd FW. All they need to do is make future firmware releases not functioning in non-ASUS router. Should not be that hard to check the hardware before starting up. As far as I know, some of ASUS firmware modules are not open source.
