Firmware Update
I cannot update the firmware. I have tried everything without success. I am a senior systems analyst, if that will save time as far as getting help goes. Nighthawk takes me in an endless loop. I am ha...
- Nov 14, 2021Netgear deserves my criticism in this particular area just as the ISP does in other areas and I'll tell you why and then I am done with this conversation. I admit that I am a little sensitive for a couple of reasons. 1. Cardiomyopathy isn't fun. I have limited time left on this Earth and don't appreciate it when a vendor like Netgear wastes some of that time.
2. Part of my job involves providing maintenance and support to my end users. As a result I'm overly sensitive to poor communication and misinformation.
I never said that I expected something to be plastered on the box. Don't put words in my mouth. It's not unreasonable for me to expect clear communication in an important area like this.
Netgear took me on a wild goose chase with this firmware issue leading me to believe that it could be updated and taking me around and around in circles. I don't appreciate it. I am smart enough to take extra steps to get the answers I need which is why I'm here in the first place on this forum.
The Nighthawk app led me down a misleading path and I don't appreciate it. I'm not asking for information to be plastered on the box and all of it given to me up front but I do expect a company to provide clear communication and correct information.
The issue has been resolved anyway. The ISP had to spend a significant amount of time replacing some wiring out back and also gave me a substantial credit on my account due to the issues I've been having. They gave me enough credit to buy another piece of equipment and throw this Netgear piece of garbage in the recycling bin. Like I said I don't have very much time left as it is and I don't need to waste time running around in circles in an app that doesn't work as expected.
I'm not a huge fan of the ISP folks by any means. But in this case they win and Netgear loses. I bought a piece of Netgear equipment years ago that also caused me grief and so I definitely learned my lesson and will stay away from this company's products going forward.
I'm highly suspicious now the of the answers I've received here. Seems to be a gang that likes to blame the ISPs for everything and can't be open-minded enough to admit otherwise.
And it's not a new toy by the way and it shows a lack of respect that you would say that. It's an important piece of equipment, not a volleyball. I've gone from thinking you were extremely helpful to realizing you're just another snotty know-it-all who likes to put others down for asking legitimate questions and calling companies out when appropriate. I'm turning off the replies to this and I won't be back and that's directly because of you.

You have the C6250?
There is no firmware update. Cable ISPs don't allow it.
If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.

Oh wow. Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Not sure what to do. I really don't think my issue is the equipment anyway. There have been a couple of lengthy outages in my area recently and since then I've had consistent service interruptions. ISP folks are coming out today, will see what happens. Thanks again.
