Gmail SMTP Stopped Working
I've been using smtp.gmail.com for years on my R7000 to send the logs every night at midnight. Just realized the last email I received was on Nov 2. I searched here on this issue and found the ment...
In general, there is no need for dealing with Google's less secure apps at all - if doing things right.

The smart email sender software on the Netgear routers in place is able to deal with plain text SMTP submission, with explicit TLS (configure port 587, this is the de-facto standard SMTP submission port, working with plain text), or with implicit TLS (configure port 465). Trouble is that if you don't specify the port, it defaults to 25 which is not intended for email submission (only for SMTP transport between message handlers). And that port 25 can be captured or is even blocked by more and more ISPs these days.
Said that, configure smtp.gmail.com.587 or smtp.gmail.com.465
Beyond, Google does strongly suggest using higher security settings fro your account.
Routers and SMTP servers can be picky in how they work together.
If GMail's SMTP kicks the bucket, then a free account on outlook.com might fill the bill. Still runs through port 25.
