Going with the netgear setup
I used the netgear recommended ssid and password to try and activate my nighthawk model r8000 for the first time. I have a netgear cm700 cable modem and cable internet though spectrum. I had already ...
2 things to try.
1. spectrum can say what they want, you still need to confirm the modem is working. POwer it off for 2 minutes and wire a pc/laptop directly to it. Boot it up and wait 2 minutes. Then power on the pc and let it fully boot and attempt to use the internet.
Does it work? If so, move on to step 2. If not, contact spectrum.
2. Power both the modem and the router back off and disconnect the coax from the modem. Wait 2-5 minutes. Connect coax back to the modem and then power it on. Wait 2 minutes for it to fully boot. Connect the router to the modem and then power the router on. Wait 2 minutes. Attempt to go through internet setup.
