    A hotfix is firmware that may or may not make it into a final version.

     

    If you look at the release notes you should see a clue as to what it does.

     

    It may be something trivial that you can ignore.

     

    Those mailings are standard Netgear practice. Think of them as marketing messages. They usually have not much to do with any recent firmware update for your hardware. Netgear just presses a "send " button from time to time and splatters the planet with email messages.
