How do I change a device name on my network? R8000
It looks like I should be able to change the device name to something meaningful for devices that are not named by the router. In Netgear Genie, I can change the names but they don't stick. Using N...

On my Dell laptop running Windows 11 my Netgear Genie about says
Version 2.4.62

On my iPhone 13 Pro Max on iOS 15.6.1 my Netgear Nighthawk about says
App Version 2.19.1.6
Firmware Version V1.0.4.84
Model Number R8000
Let me clarify the sticking. When I reopen Netgear Genie, the changes to the device names that I made are still there. What I should have said was that they don't propagate to Nighthawk on my iPhone.
Since then I have changed the name of my laptop and that change has been picked up by Nighthawk. I also changed the name of my iPhone. That change has not been picked up by Genie or Nighthawk.
I don't suppose these names are stored on the router or they would be coordinated between Genie and Nighthawk.
The names I change in Genie must be stored on my laptop since they do persist in Genie.
Nighthawk always returns an error when I try to change a device name.
I have to log in to my router to use Genie or Nighthawk. I would like to see these names stored on and retrieved from the router so that they could be coordinated across the apps that I use to access the router.

Seems to work between the desktop genie and the router. Just checked. Android app too.

I've been working with the Nighthawk app on my iPhone. I have gotten the devices named. I had some false starts and am not sure about whether the following are completely accurate as noted.
I selected a device and clicked on the Edit button.
I first changed the device type. This may be necessary before changing the name (not sure).
I changed the name by editing what was already there and it would not save. I.e. I got an error message.
Then I deleted the existing name and entered a name using the following rules (not sure if these are necessary but it works when I follow them)
Only use upper and lower case letters and the dash (-). No spaces. (Not sure. I was able to use spaces with Genie.)
I hope this helps anyone else who wants to rename the devices.
Cheers.

What error message?

You may have hit upon the issue. The names you pick seem to be important.
Maybe doing it on the desktop app also differs from what the mobile app accepts, just to make like interesting.

In response to "What error message?"
I get "Sorry, the action was failed. Please try again." message
