How to access admin console of D8500 after changing device mode to "Modem only"?
Hi All I have a Nighthawk X8 D8500 (router/modem) which I use in "modem" device mode. The problem I have is that after changing to this device mode - there seems to be no way to interface with th...

I solved the issue by doing the following:
- connected PC to D8500 wifi
- manually configured PC IP on wifi adapter to be on the same address range as the router (eg. router was 192.168.0.1 so set PC to 192.168.0.2
- browsed to 192.168.0.1 from PC to access admin web console
so quite straight forward really. worth mentioning I tried using ethernet to connect to router from PC, manually configuring LAN adapter - but it wouldn't connect!
going forward, I will use the wifi button on the front of the D8500 to enable wfi should I ever need to connect to the admin console.

Impressive, no? On a D7000[v1], it's found at ADVANCED > Advanced
Setup > Device Mode. But, again, there's no mention of administration
after the mode change. I've never tried it (my ISP uses PPPoA, so it's
not applicable), so I know nothing, but...
Interestingly, according to its User Manual, the DM200 "DSL Modem"
(which actually includes a basic router) seems to allow this using a
special/fixed IP address, "192.168.5.1". I have no idea whether any of
the Dxxxx modem+router models have such a feature.

I doubt that a firmware update would make such a mode change.

I'd try that "192.168.5.1" address, but I wouldn't bet much on it.
If that fails, then a settings reset might be the only way to make its
management web site accessible again. And I'd expect that to destroy
all the settings which you might want to inspect.

I doubt that that would work. Even wireless-access-point mode (which
also disables router functions) disables Remote Management:

I wouldn't bet on it. I'd be interested to hear if you learn more.

Hi antinode, thanks for the reply

This release mentions that the update "enables modem mode"

I tried browsing to "192.168.5.1" while connected to my new wireless router (which is connected to the D8500 via ethernet for successful internet connection), but unsuccessful (not surprised). I can still see the wireless SSID of the D8500 even tho its in modem mode, but unable to connect because it cant get an IP (again not surprising with no DHCP).
when I get a chance ill have a look at the User Manual for the DM200. might be worth trying to set a static IP on my laptop before trying connecting via ethernet and wireless.
I'll let you know how it goes!

"Supports Modem mode on firmware" suggests to me that the option was
added, not that it was selected. That is, at least, consistent with its
absence from the Uswr Manual.> is that over ethernet connection to a specific port, or wireless?

I can believe that it's exclusive to the DM200.> [...] I can still see the wireless SSID of the D8500 even tho its in
