    Yes. The Xfinity SB-8.

     

    In AP mode the R6900 is no longer a router. It gets its IP address from the Xfinity SB-8.

     

    You'll have to check the manual for the Xfinity to work out how to get the IP address of the R6900.

    Routers usually have their own IP address that you can get at with a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI). For Netgear, the usual address is 192.168.1.1. Some brands prefer 10.0.0.1.

     

    Feed the IP address you find into a browser and see what happens.

     

    Lastly, how do I 'aim the browser' at the ip?

     

    Same as getting in to the router. Feed the IP address you find into a browser. (Some browsers will try to block you for security reasons. This is rubbish. It is a local address.)

     

    Most routers should have a list of "connected devices" look for the one that could be your R6900.

In AP mode, the R6900 has no control over where URLs go on the network. That is down to the router.

If you find the IP address that the router has assigned to the AP, then you can aim the browser at that.

 

While you are in there, you could set the R6900 to a fixed IP address. Then you can always use a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI) to get at it.

 

This bit is puzzling.

 

I would like to go back into Netgear Genie to 'disable access' to this old laptop so that I will get the logon prompt again. Could you please advise how this can be done?

 

Which Netgear Genie is this? (There are several.)

 

If you are using the desktop app for your operating system, then the network map should show you the IP address of the AP. It should even be clickable and take you into the GUI for the R6900.
