How to reboot Nighthawk R7000P remotely
I have a Nighthawk R7000P router hooked to a cable modem which routinely crashes (about once a month), and my security cameras are dependent on the router . Re-setting it when I'm home just requires ...
- The Keep Connect smart plug completely solved the issue. It senses any interruption and reboots until the connection is reestablished. You can also monitor the status of the KC plug via internet and use multiple KC plugs for a more complex network.

I've lost count of how many people have made that claim, only to turn out to be hopelessly wrong. We had one earlier today whose "latest" turned out to be three years out of date. That is why we ask for the version number.

Again, that is a less than helpful diagnostic clue.
What loses connectivity? The link to the modem? The wired Ethernet? The Wifi? All wifi?
What do the LEDs on the router look like? Are there any clues in the router's logs?
These questions may seems irrelevant to you, but this looks like your first time here. Regulars are used to these requests for details.
Accurate diagnosis depends on having as much information as possible about your network and what happens. That will waste less of your time.
The firmware version is V1.3.1.64 with no updates available currently.
The solution I've found so far is to plug the Nighthawk router into a Keep Connect smart plug which detects network outages and triggers a reboot. It would be nicer if the Nighthawk was able to do that itself, or if there was a way to trigger it remotely, but I await any suggestions from the forum.
- Hello! Curious to know if you ever solved your issue. Mine is very similar on a number of fronts. I too am reliant on my system for WiFi security cameras for an 2nd home where we live 50% of the time and if there is a brief power outage, and sometimes even if not — the modem goes offline. I have XFINITY service, that confirms no WiFi outage. I have neighbors that confirm power is on. I have to have a friend go into the house, unplug the Netgear Nighthawk Cable Modem for 30 seconds, plug it back in — and then my Orbi routers immediately go right back online.
Not familiar with that smart plug — will be researching that.

- Thanks. I think I’m going to give the KC a shot. Maybe one for router and one for modem. Seems highly likely to solve my issue — and if so, at a relatively low cost.
