I can't log in with admin/password... R7000
I am trying to login and see what's on my network (and to get my RING devices on the right 2.4 channel) but the website will NOT accept admin and password AND it will not accept my serial number (the...
- Sep 17, 2019Thank you to everyone who provided suggestions. I ended up downloading the Netgear app ( I forgot the exact name, maybe Netgear UP) and was finally able to get into the login screen where all the router settings are located.
I then had to reset all the parameters fresh and now it’s working fine.

To the original poster: I have the very same problem. Happened after firmware update. Everything works, but I can no longer login as an admin, and the router will not accept the serial number to “recover password”. The best I could find out was to do factory reset and reprogram everything again. Did you find out anything else that was useful?
What a PITA!

I’ve also tried everything and cannot access router login.com or router login.net. It was surfing just fine, but I needed to change some settings and I can no longer get into it. I’ve also tried a direct cat 5 wire between port 2 and the computer. Then I’ve tried WiFi and still no login page. I end up with the netgear web site, instead of the router login screen.
Now I held reset for 7 seconds until the power light flashes, to default it to factory settings. After all that I still can’t log into it. It surfs the internet though. Ughh, is there a fix for this? I’ve always been really good about keeping the firmware updated. I suspect the latest firmware is preventing me from being able to log into it.

> I've also tried everything [...]
It would have made more sense to start your own new thread, instead
of re-awakening this months-old, largely unproductive thread.Think for a moment about how little useful information that that
non-description could possibly convey to the non-psychics in your
audience. If you had actually "tried everything", then there would be
no hope at all.> [...] cannot access router login.com or router login.net. [...]
"router login.com or router login.net" should be "routerlogin.com or
routerlogin.net" (without spurious spaces). What, exactly, did you try?
Did you try specifying the router's IP address instead of any of these
names?
"cannot" is not a useful problem description. It does not say what
you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.> [...] I can no longer get into it. [...]
Regarding "can no longer", see "not a useful problem description
[...]", above.> [...] Then I've tried WiFi and still no login page. [...]
Now that you've revealed what you did _not_ get, perhaps you could
reveal what you _did_ get.> [...] I end up with the netgear web site, [...]
"the netgear web site" is a very big place. Which part of it did you
get? Copy+paste is your friend.
> [...] I still can't log into it. [...]Regarding "can't", see "not a useful problem description [...]",
above.LED indicators? Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model
number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look
for the LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot". Especially "Cannot
Log In to the Router".- PBukowskiSep 15, 2019Aspirant
Antinode - you are a very rude person. If you are representing Netgear, you should be ashamed of yourself. Forget that I even posted anything. I will be all done buying Netgear products in the future. Instead I’ll purchase a $300 router from Asus. Maybe I won’t have to deal with insults from them.

Is that really the Netgear site? Or the browser's graphical user interface (GUI)?

See the answer to ComPH. These things are usually down to a handful of possible causes.
I assume that you found this:
If you cannot login to your router | Answer | NETGEAR Support
As I said earlier, when problem solving it is generally a good idea to start a new conversation, after checking old stuff for clues. I doubt if you have come up with a unique way of breaking access to your router.
If you do start afresh, you can help people to help you by providing the information suggested in this forum's header:
Subject (Include model number and brief summary)
Model (Recommended - Helps the community give the best answers)
Body (Include additional detail including model version, firmware, OS and environment where relevant.)They are there for a good reason. The "environment" bit includes the rest of the stuff on your network.

To the original poster: I have the very same problem.Maybe, maybe not. There can be many reasons why people see these "can't login" symptoms. Without knowing the exact circumstances, who knows which applies to you.
Let's deal with this bit:
ComPH wrote:
....the router will not accept the serial number to “recover password”.You don't say what "will not accept" means, but there is a bug in some devices in Netgear's implementation of password recovery. You can get locked into a closed loop.
If password recovery is enabled, but you have not set the answers to the questions, it keeps sending you back to the beginning of the process because you can't answer the questions.
If the standard factory password (password) does not work, then you will have to factory reset the thing to get back to that. Then either disable password recovery (check the manual for your device) or provide some answers to those questions. As to this bit:
ComPH wrote:
Everything works, but I can no longer login as an admin, ...That's an other one where there can be various causes. Sometimes you can recover simply by rebooting your network so that the various components connect in the right order:
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
If that doesn't get you back in business, then we need to know more. In particular, what is the modem in front of your router? If it is one of those things that an Internet service provider wished on you, then it may also be a router, with ports to wire things to your network and maybe with its own wifi. If so, you may need to reconfigure the modem and/or the Netgear router.
For guidance on that, provide more information and perhaps start a new discussion. When problem solving it is generally a good idea to start a new conversation, after checking old stuff for clues, of course.
That issue crops up all the time and you should be able to find an existing answer that fits your circumstances.
Good luck. You may need it.
