Internet dropout

I have been suffering a bout of internet dropout recently - twice today already. The service comes back if I turn off the router and then turn it on again. Is this a problem with my Nighthawk, in which case is there an update I should look at,  or could it be the Virgin box and how can I tell? My current firmware is V1.O.11.106_10.2.100
