Latest firmware update bricked my R6020 Router

The latest firmware update has bricked my router.

I've checked online and found a way to fix it but I'm not able to download tftp2.exe.  I'm told I'm not allowed access.  I've tried tftp.exe and Solawinds tftp server but to no avail.

I'm really quite pissed off because these updates aren't supposed to screw our hardware.

If anyone has a link to somewhere I can download tftp2.exe other than the shadowsoftware.net site, I'd be most appreciative.

are you on windows? if so, follow this guide

    https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP

just make sure you enable tftp

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10

and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

    https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash

And many things can go wrong with both so when you say it doesn't work, it doesn't tell us much. tell us where its failing in the process, what you're trying, etc. details are key since we aren't there. And both tftp and nmrpflash are sensitive to timings. its a small window that you use when you start it.

You, sir (I'm assuming your gender), are a hero.

      I cannot thank you enough.

I used cmd to tftp a firmware update and boom, it's all good again.

      Once again, thank you immensely.

    What symptoms do you see?

The "bricked" term is widely misused, with people using it to describe various problems.

One possible recovery option is a recovery reset:

    • Press reset for 30 seconds
    • Keep pressing reset while removing power
    • Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power

If it works, which is rare but worth trying, you may be able to use a traditional firmware upload.
