I tried the majority of your suggestions and appreciate the input. When I called Netgear customer service, they pulled up my information. They knew exactly when I purchased the product and they also could tell which FW updates had been done. They told me the router was only good for three years and that additional FW updates can’t be done without the purchase of a new service agreement. They gave me the options of a three year or five year plan. I am not going to spend more for a service agreement than I did for the router. They also told me that the purchase of a new product from Netgear only comes with 30 days of service coverage and every new customer has to buy a service agreement to cover beyond the 30 days.

Ya someone at support is trying for more money when there isn't a need. Firmware updates can and are supported by manually updating the router by you with a ethernet connected PC and web browser. It's not something NG can't prevent if you don't pay for a support fee.

Thank you. This is very helpful. Too bad their customer support folks aren't as helpful as you.
